This is my own version of making an SSR to control christmas lights.
I built it directly on the back of the outlet.
I tried building with chip sockets, but the pins were too fragile.
I just straightened out the pins on the chip and soldered directly to them.
I built 2 that were alike except for the 5v feed resistor,
which I reversed on one of them.
Once I had tested everything to make sure it worked, I put a little hot glue
in a few places to make sure everything stayed where it was supposed to be. Then I
put the whole thing in a plastic electrical box.
